City Hall area is within the Central Business District of Singapore. It is also the civic & cultural district, characterised by municipal buildings such as the old Supreme Court, the new Supreme Court, the City Hall building, as well as historical churches such as CHJMES, Saint Andrews Cathedral. Singapore Management University (SMU), a reputable business University in Singapore, has its city campus right in the heart of City Hall area. Singapore’s fine arts school, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), is also located in the vicinity.
City Hall area is also a vibrant shopping district. The area is served by City Hall MRT station (subway), and is one of the top ridership stations in Singapore. At rush hours, you can see peak traffic at its wildest, crowds transiting at the train stations (City Hall MRT station is an interchange), office people out beating each others’ paces on their way home. And yet, the area almost never really rest; just by the number of shopping malls connected directly with City Hall MRT station, sometimes you cannot differentiate here from the Orchard Road craze.
City Hall MRT station connects you to Raffles City Shopping Centre, Citylink Mall (subterranean mall), Marina Square, Suntec City Mall, & more. Just opposite exit B of the station, Funan the IT Mall is located just across the road. Unlike your commercial fashion mall, Funan is an Information Technology themed mall that retails mainly computers and computer peripherals, mobiles, lifestyle gadgets & other communication products.
A little beyond at the Marina City Centre area, there is Millenia Walk shopping mall, which is accessible by the Promenade MRT station.
