Chinatown is a distinctive chinese ethnic heritage area & cultural place with historical sites popular with tourists in Singapore. During Chinese New Year season, this place is packed with both locals and foreigners, as Singaporeans do their chinese new year shopping for goodies while tourists flock here to soak in the atmosphere and sightseeing.

Chinatown is also known for its historical sites such as temples & mosques, i.e. Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple, Thian Hock Keng Chinese Temple, Al-Abrar Mosque. The area is also characterised by the buildings architecture that came under Singapore Government’s building conservation guidelines. Many building owners and developers hence develop boutique hotels, cafes, offices, etc with heritage facades kept intact.

As the place progresses, Chinatown is now well served by Chinatown MRT station (subway), with various exits to Pagoda Street, Yue Hwa Building, OG shopping complex, etc. Shoppers have numerous shopping options, the rows of shophouses along packed shopping streets, or air-conditioned complexes such as OG People’s Park, Yue Hwa, Peoples Park Complex, Peoples Park Centre, Pearl Centre, Chinatown Point, etc.
